Touchboard

As a side product of the thesis a new kind of interface was developed with the intent to address some of the limitations found in the common desktop-oriented interfaces.

The Touchboard is a wall-mounted display that enhances bodily freedom and movement. The user can choose to operate it standing or seated (then through an indirect input method), and can turn away from it as he pleases. This allows for a more fluid integration into the creative workflow.

It makes strong use of bodily skills in that it supports touch input with more than one finger. Two- and three-finger gestures as well as two-handed and even collaborative interaction are supported. It is also possible to use any other physical device as an input, such as for example a brush.

I got really excited when developing this technology because at the time (mid-2005) I thought it was a totally new invention - only to find out about Jeff Han's milestone soon after that.
