Motivating Sustainable Behaviour

Motivating sustainable behaviour through Interaction Design

Academic talk on our research into how interaction design can motivate people to consume less energy. Our projects in the area of home energy consumption (heating & electricity) and automotive (driving style) show promising angles and provide guidelines for other parties.

Specifically, our research has shown that as long as there is no "hard" motivation such as laws or money, convenience is the biggest challenge. Therefore, our product proposals combine convenience with the act of energy saving.

The work has been carried out at the Interaction Design Lab of FH Potsdam, together with Christiane Holzheid, Jonathan Cohen, Helge Fischer, and Prof. Reto Wettach.
